Position Overview
The Field Coordinator, Guatemala will support the day-to-day implementation of WORK’s accompaniment and responsible sourcing programs for informal waste workers and their families in Guatemala. Reporting to the Program Manager, Guatemala, this role will spend significant time in the field building trusted relationships, coordinating program activities, gathering reliable data, and helping ensure that services and partnerships respond to the priorities and lived experiences of workers and communities.
The Field Coordinator will serve as a consistent point of contact for collectors, families, collection centers, processors, recycling facilities, and other local partners. The role combines field engagement, program coordination, value-chain learning, monitoring, translation, documentation. The Field Coordinator will turn field observations into clear updates and recommendations for the Program Manager and collaborate with WORK’s global teams to support program quality, learning.
Responsibilities
Field Engagement and Participant Accompaniment
Conduct regular field visits and build trusted relationships with informal waste workers, families, collection centers, processors, recycling facilities, community organizations, and local partners.
Coordinate visits, meetings, participant intake, needs assessments, referrals, follow-up, and progress tracking in accordance with WORK’s accompaniment model.
Identify barriers related to income, health, education, documentation, occupational safety, financial resilience, and family stability; escalate urgent or safeguarding concerns.
Document participant feedback and help incorporate it into program improvements.
Value-Chain Mapping and Responsible Sourcing
Map collector pathways, material flows, pricing, working conditions, payment practices, traceability, partner relationships, risks, and opportunities across Guatemala’s recycling value chain.
Gather field information and support verification of responsible sourcing standards, partner commitments, working conditions, and corrective actions.
Identify opportunities to strengthen worker livelihoods, safety, transparency, and dignity across the supply chain.
Program Implementation and Partner Coordination
Carry out assigned program activities, pilots, trainings, and partner engagements according to approved goals, timelines, and procedures.
Support the identification, onboarding, and coordination of collection centers, processors, recycling facilities, service providers, NGOs, municipal actors, and private-sector partners.
Coordinate logistics, materials, communications, and field arrangements for activities and visits by WORK team members, funders, guests, and partners.
Documentation, Communication, and Translation
Collect and maintain accurate participant, partner, activity, outcome, and supply-chain data, files, visit notes, consent records, referrals, risk logs, and supporting documentation.
Provide clear field updates to the Program Manager on progress, emerging needs, barriers, risks, decisions required, and recommended next steps; support internal and partner reporting.
Provide accurate written and verbal Spanish-English interpretation and translation for participants, partners, meetings, materials, and field activities.
Learning and Storytelling
Contribute field data, insights, and ethically sourced participant stories to WORK’s Annual Program Outcomes Report and Engagement Team activities.
Obtain appropriate consent before collecting or sharing personal stories, photos, quotations, or identifying information.
Support research and development of new services in Guatemala.
Desired Skills
Experience coordinating community-based, workforce-development, environmental, or local development programs and conducting regular fieldwork.
Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships with workers, families, community leaders, and partners.
Understanding of recycling, waste management, informal work, supply chains, responsible sourcing, or the circular economy strongly preferred.
Strong organizational, data collection, documentation, and follow-up skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities with limited supervision.
Sound judgment with confidential information, safeguarding concerns, sensitive relationships, and changing field conditions.
